CFO Series: Grey Dhaka: Poised to exceed self

GREY Dhaka the first global advertising agency in Bangladesh was founded in 1996 with only four employees. It is currently the largest and most awarded agency in the country with an employee count of almost 120.

The focus is always to create greater value for the client and break established communication norms to create new trends. This requires a participatory style of management where every employee is not only given responsibilities but also the authority to execute the responsibilities in the best possible way.

Grey Dhaka was set up together with Mr. Syed Manzur Elahi and Mr. Syed Nasim Manzur. While all operational decisions are made by Grey and the country office is headed by Syed Gousul Alam Shaon who is the Managing Director, it is the Chairman, Mr. Monzur Elahi, who is consulted for major business decisions.

With the vision of becoming the change maker in the country by creating new standards and trends, Grey Dhaka has been leaving its mark in the communication industry in Bangladesh by getting recognized for the quality of execution; A firm believer in the company’s motto “Famously Effective Since 1917″, Grey Dhaka has been creating both famous and effective works for its clients and this has brought about recognition for the office in both international and local arenas. In the journey so far, Grey Dhaka has won an APAC Silver Effie in 2008, Bronze at AdStars 2013, been awarded as “Agency of the Year” nine times (in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 & 2003) and has won the highest number of metals in the COMMWARD 2013. Grey Dhaka is by far the only agency in Bangladesh to be recognized in the Effie and AdStars Awards. The team was also awarded Agency of the Year at Srijon Samman 2014 held at Calcutta, India for their excellence in Bengali advertising which is Famously Effective in the region.

Grey Dhaka has a strong belief in establishing long term relationships with clients. Its client roster include Grameenphone, GlaxoSmithKline, Hong Kong Shanghai Bank, Perfetti Van Melle, Berger Paints, BBC Media Action, Unicef, Proctor & Gamble, Pran RFL Group, The Daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, just to name a few.

Grey Dhaka also became the only agency in the country to develop and launch a global campaign when International Cricket Council (ICC) appointed it as the strategy and creative agency for the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 campaign.

Today, it has become the most sought after agency of the country for strategic and creative solutions. Increasingly, clients are looking to the agency for Digital & Social Media, Shopper Marketing and social development communication capabilities.

Apart from commercial advertising, Grey Dhaka has always engaged itself with campaigns that deal with change and consistently strived to be a part of any project that promises to bring about progressive social change. The office is proud to say that it has been successful in bringing major changes in people’s behavior through social communication and even certain brand communication campaigns.
